- The Lafayette Women's Soccer team played American level for the first 45 minutes, but the hosts were able to break through for a pair of second-half goals in a 2-0 win Sunday at Reeves Field.
American senior Yari Bradfield, one of the top scorers in the nation, assisted on a goal by Audrey Denkler in the 54th minute and then scored her Patriot League-leading 13th goal of the season 14 minutes later to seal the win.
The Leopards finished the contest with four shots, including a pair on frame by senior Alex Stanford
and sophomore Krista Kissell
. Both shots on goal were turned away by American junior Morgan Lang who registered her first shutout of the season since taking over as primary goalkeeper in early October.
Lafayette keeper Maggie Pohl
was credited with four saves on the afternoon and had stopped several earlier attempts by Denkler before the senior connected following passes from Garbriela Maldonado and Bradfield. Maldonado also assisted on Bradfield's marker.
The loss to American eliminates the Leopards from contention for a spot in the six-team Patriot League Women's Soccer tournament which begins on October 30. Lafayette will play its final game of the 2018 campaign on Saturday afternoon when they host Loyola Maryland on Senior Day.
Six Lafayette seniors - forward Alex Stanford
