SAN ANTONIO – Former standout pitcher for the Lafayette College baseball program, David Bednar, earned a promotion in the San Diego Padres organization on Friday, joining the double-A affiliate San Antonio Missions.
With single-A advanced Lake Elsinore, Bednar accumulated a 2.73 ERA with a 2-4 record in 69.1 innings pitched. He has struck out 96 in his 47 appearances out of the bullpen for the Storm.
While on College Hill, Bednar made 29 career starts for the Leopards with 188 strikeouts to rank third on the Lafayette all-time strikeout list.
In his professional career, Bednar has made stops in all three levels of single-A with a career record of 7-12 with a 2.62 ERAin 115 appearance all in relief. He has struck out 217 batters in 161.2 innings pitched as a professional.
This is his first promotion to double-A, playing for the San Diego Padres organization his entire career after being drafted by the team in the 35
th round in 2016.
