MALVERN, Pa. -- Junior
Will Halamandaris shot a blazing 4-under par 67 to help the Lafayette Golf team grab a share of third place after the first round of the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Villanova.
Playing at the par-71 White Manor Country Club, Halamandaris nearly had an unblemished card with 12 pars, five birdies and just one bogey. Individually, the Crownsville, Md. native is tied for third place, four shots behind Connor Schmidt who shot a blistering 63 to tie the Drexel school record.
Rounding out the scoring for the Leopards team total of 286 was
Cole Berger,
Kazuki Osawa and
Ryan Tall who each shot two-over 73.
Brendan Cronin was one shot back at 74 and
Alec Cwienkala posted the best score of those playing as an individual with a 75.
The Leopards are tied with fellow Patriot League member Colgate in the team standings behind Akron (-10) and Drexel (-12). Other Patriot League teams in the 20-team field include Lehigh (+9) and Bucknell (+10).
Round two is scheduled to commence with a shotgun start on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
