Position: Student-Athlete Success/Development Intern

Hours: Vary by week, depending upon season. Must be willing to work some nights and weekends.

Start/End Date: Interns are accepted throughout the year with start and end dates to be agreed upon by intern and supervisor

Qualifications: Pursuing Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, Sport Management or related field; customer service oriented; excellent written and verbal skills; proficiency in G Suite.

 

Job Description:

The Student-Athlete Success office supports approximately 620 student-athletes who participate in 23 varsity sports at Lafayette College. The Student-Athlete Success/Development Intern will assist the Assistant Director and Senior Associate AD with the daily operations of the office. This will include management of the Peer Mentor Program, Study Flex, student-athlete leadership development programs, course registration, and all academic matters involving student-athletes. 


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with developing and implementing academic success plans for student-athletes who have learning challenges, are underprepared for college, and/or lacking the tools necessary for success.

  • Works to develop relationships with student-athletes for the purposes of identifying students who are struggling and in need of more comprehensive support.

  • Assist student-athletes with course selection, registration, and progress toward degree.

  • Participate in the daily coordination of the Peer Mentor Program.

  • Assist with the supervision of the Study Flex Program

    • Monitors student progress in Study Flex and fosters the development of time management, organizational skills as well as other academic skills as outlined in student-athletes academic plan by providing coaching, information, and resources.

    • Acts as a proctor of student-athletes in the Study Flex Program by logging visits and ensuring students stay engaged in academic work.

  • Assists with preparation of reports and other materials on academic status for coaches, athletics administrators, and university administrators.

  • Update weekly newsletters, update department websites, and contribute to social media accounts.

  • Assists in the organization of materials and planning of events for academics, SAAC, Peer Mentor Program, and Oaks Leadership Academy. 

  • Complete other various projects as assigned.
