EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's volleyball team (6-8) dropped a 3-0 decision to Princeton in a non-conference match-up Wednesday night. The loss snapped the Leopards' two-match win streak.
Sophomore Ashton Rossi saw playing time in three games, just the third time this season she has played in at least three games during a match. Rossi led the team with 23 assists while freshman Katrina Racibarskas had a team-high 10 kills and added seven assists, the second-highest total on the team. Senior Michaela Donohue and sophomore Kari Horn each added 11 digs for the Leopards.
Princeton opened the match with a 30-13 decision over the Leopards. Racibarskas recorded four of her 10 kills in that game.
The second game of the night was a more competitive one, with Princeton coming out on top of a 30-24 decision. The score was tied 10 times throughout the game as Donohue and Racibarskas each recorded three kills.
The third and final game was also a highly competitive one with Princeton narrowly edging Lafayette 30-27. Horn led the team with five digs while freshman Kayly Elmer recorded four kills. The Leopards at one point held a 15-12 lead on a kill by senior Maura Kelly but the Tigers chipped away at the lead and eventually came back for the win.
The Leopards open Patriot League play this weekend when they travel to Colgate on Friday and Bucknell on Saturday.
Lafayette will host a "Kids' Night" at the team's home match against archrival Lehigh on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. Admission is free and there will be pizza and prizes for the children in attendance. All fans are encouraged to come out and support the Leopards as they take on the Mountain Hawks in a key Patriot League match up.
