BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lafayette men's and women's track team posted 12 first place finishes but fell second to Lehigh in the overall standings at the annual Lafayette-Lehigh Dual Meet on Saturday. It was the first time in three years the Mountain Hawks bested the Leopards.
Jessica Buzzell and Sean Casey were named Lafayette's Outstanding Performers of the Meet. Buzzell paced Lafayette with three first place finishes, which included two in jumps. After posting the best jump in the league last week in the long jump, she bested her own production with a jump of 18'08" - less than two inches off her school record.
She also captured the high jump with a personal best 5'05" and the 60 meter hurdles (9.10).
Kerriann Borke also performed well in the jumps with a 36-02 posting in the triple jump. Vicky Melroy earned first place in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 39-10 ½.
Margaret Bruno-Metzger ran away with the competition for the second week in a row in the mile with a time of 5:14.98.
The men's runners proved to be Lafayette's strongest finishers. Both the 4x400 meter and 4x800 meter relay teams edged Lehigh.
