Twelve Newcomers Join Women’s Lacrosse in 2019

Leopards will feature freshmen at all three field positions this spring

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette women's lacrosse program will introduce 12 freshmen on this year's 2019 squad, set to begin action on Feb. 10. Below is a full breakdown of the Leopards' Class of 2022.


Dory Howard (5-8 | Midfield | Madison, Conn. | Daniel Hand): Was a four-time conference champion, leading her team to a 73-12 overall record in her career…scored 43 goals and added 10 assists her senior year, while being selected to the All-SCC and All-State First Teams…named Academic All-State and an Academic All-American…earned high honor roll throughout her career and was the recipient of both the Barbara Jurash & Ethel Jurash Burnett Scholarship and the Biology Commendation Award…participated in the Peer Advocates program and was a CHOICES program student volunteer, both part of Madison Youth and Family Services…played on the club circuit for Nor'easter Lacrosse in Connecticut…daughter of Heather and Andy Howard…has two younger sisters, Janet and Hadley…father played football at Harvard, while her uncle, Chad Sinn, played golf at Rochester.


Emilie de Keyzer (5-8 | Attack | Chatham, N.J. | Chatham): Played four years of lacrosse and four years of soccer, leading her lacrosse team in goals and assists in 2017-18…named as the team captain her senior year when she tallied 162 career points as a First-Team All-County selection…honored as Second-Team All-Group and Third-Team All-County in 2017…member of the National Honor Society and the French Honor Society…played on the club circuit for Building Blocks Lacrosse in Madison, New Jersey…daughter of Cynthia and Marcel de Keyzer…has an older sister, Sophie and a younger brother, Julian…mother was a gymnast at Western Michigan.


Lexi Gibbons (5-2 | Midfield | Pittsburgh, Pa. | Mt. Lebanon): Played four years of lacrosse and four years of field hockey, winning the WPIAL championship in lacrosse in 2016…was a team captain her senior year, earning All-Section, All-WPIAL and All-American status…also named to the All-Section Team and All-WPIAL in 2017…inducted into the Mt. Lebanon Hall of Champions in 2018 with 106 career goals…was a team captain her senior year in field hockey, named the MVP in 2017, as well as garnering All-Section and All-WPIAL honors that season…earned high honor roll status and participated in the National Honor Society and the Cum Laude Society…recipient of the Medallion Ball for 150 hours of volunteer service…played on the club circuit for the Pittsburgh Premier Lacrosse Club…daughter of Collette and Ed Gibbons…has an older sister, Megan and two younger brothers, Joe and Cole…sister plays lacrosse at Lehigh.


Tessa Luzi (5-6 | Defense | Chatham, N.J. | Chatham):
Played four years of both lacrosse and soccer, while also participating in one season of winter track and field…was a captain of her lacrosse team in 2018 and named Second-Team All-County and All-Group…participated in the National Honor Society and the French Honor Society…was a coach for Jersey City Lacrosse and Chatham K-3 Lacrosse…volunteered with Eva's Kitchen and Teens Connecting with Teens…played on the club circuit with Building Blocks Lacrosse in Madison, New Jersey…daughter of Kristen and Joseph Luzi…has three younger sisters, Tamer, Taryn and Tiegan…father played football and baseball at Gettysburg.


Kelly Sullivan (5-1 | Midfield | Dix Hills, N.Y. | Half Hollow Hills West): Was five-year starter in lacrosse and also played three years of volleyball…was a captain each of her last two seasons and a Scholar-Athlete all five years…selected as a Brine Lacrosse All-American and was a three-time Suffolk County All-Division performer…winner of the Sportsmanship Award in volleyball and the Suffolk County Physical Education Leadership Award…participated in the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society…earned honor roll status all four years…member of Athletes Helping Athletes, the Varsity Club and the Spanish Club…volunteered at Hills Lacrosse, assisting in training and coaching…created and organized four food drives and collected over 650 pounds of food and personal items for the Long Island Cares/Harry Chapin Food Bank…recipient of the Half Hollow Wills PTA Council scholarship and the Order Sons & Daughters of Italy in America scholarship…daughter of Cathy and Jeremiah Sullivan…has an older sister, Cayla and an older brother, Jeremiah…brother plays lacrosse for NYIT.


Abby Najarian (5-2 | Midfield | Westport, Conn. | Staples): Played four years of lacrosse, four years of field hockey and ran one season of track and field…was a team captain on her lacrosse team and an FCIAC Scholar-Athlete in both lacrosse and field hockey…won two state championships in field hockey…earned honor roll all four years and was a member of the National Honor Society…volunteered with the National Charity League…played on the club circuit with the CT Grizzlies in Darien, Connecticut…daughter of Dale and Pete Najarian…has an older sister, Nicole…father played lacrosse at Lafayette as part of the class of 1988.


Callie Wortmann (5-7 | Defense/Midfield | Bedford, N.Y. | Fox Lane): Was a four-year starter at defense her first two seasons and in the midfield as a junior and senior…named a two-time team captain and earned All-Section honors in 2018…recipient of the FL Sports Booster Blub Scholarship Athletic Award in 2017-18 and the Senior Athletic Award in 2018…achieved high honor roll status her junior and senior years, while also earning the Unsung Hero Award in 2018…daughter of Leslie and Victor Wortmann…has two older brothers, Tory and Will…brother, Will, played baseball at Gettysburg.


Olivia Cunningham (5-5 | Attack | Collegeville, Pa. | Episcopal Academy): Played four years of lacrosse and one season of soccer, while also running two years of track and field…won Inter-Ac championships in 2017 and 2018 and a state championship in 2016…finished in second place in the PAISAA tournament in 2015, 2017 and 2018…scored 108 career goals and added 70 assists, 51 ground balls and 40 caused turnovers…netted 48 goals and 48 assists her senior year, leading the Inter-Ac in scoring…named First-Team All-Inter-Ac, Second-Team All-Delco and Second-Team All-Southeast PA by the Philadelphia Inquirer…recipient of the John A. Harder Most Improved Award in lacrosse and track and field…volunteered with the Community Service Club…played on the club circuit with Philly Blast Lacrosse in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania…daughter of Michelle and Lyle Cunningham…has one older sister, Ava, one younger sister, Payton, and two younger brothers, Gavin and Jace.


Lily Bedell (5-8 | Defense | Fair Haven, N.J. | Rumson-Fair Haven): Played four years of lacrosse and ran track for four seasons…named to the Under Armour All-American Team and won a state championship in 2016…four-time champion in the Shore Conference and Group II Sectionals…named All-Division SGLCA, All-Group 2 and All-Shore Conference First Team in 2018, as well as being selected to the NJ Central Division All-Star Team…listed as a NJ Top Defender and won her team's Best Defensive Player award in 2018…was a 2017 All-Shore Conference Second-Team honoree…invited to the Nike Elite 120 in 2015 for the top 120 freshmen players in the region…selected as a U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American in 2017…winner of the Presidential Gold Award for Academics in 2018 and the Barnard College Book Award for Academic & Leadership Achievements in 2017…member of the high honor roll and the National Honor Society…volunteered with Key Club, Horizons, Lax for the Cure, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, the Ridge Run for Suicide Prevention, Play for Payton, the Buddy Mentors, Benedictine Academy and Little Silver Lacrosse…played on the club circuit with T3-Shore Black in New Jersey…daughter of Paige and Donald Bedell…has two older brothers, Donald and Reid…father played football at Colgate, while brother, Donald, played football at Montana and brother, Reid plays golf at USC-Upstate.


Caroline Curnal (5-9 | Midfield | Ridgefield, Conn. | Ridgefield):
Played four years of lacrosse, volleyball and basketball, starting her final three seasons of lacrosse...led her team to a County Championship Runner-Up and a State Championship Runner-Up finish…named a team captain in her senior season…two-time All-FCIAC First-Team selection and was All-State First Team, an All-American and the 2017 Connecticut Female Athlete of the Year…won 279 draw controls in her career and added 121 career goals…in volleyball, she was a team captain, All-FCIAC First Team, All-State First Team, the 2017 Offensive Player of the Year and the 2018 MVP…in basketball, she was a team captain, a two-time All-FCIAC First-Team selection, an All-State First-Team honoree and a two-time MVP…recipient of the Bryan V. McCarthy Award and the High School Business scholarship as well as being a three-year honor roll student….volunteered as a team member for Saferides for two years and coached youth lacrosse for two years…daughter of Virginia and Jim Curnal…has an older brother, Ryan…father played baseball at Lafayette as a member of the class of 1976.


Caroline Garti (5-8 | Attack | Yorktown Heights, N.Y. | Yorktown): Played three years of lacrosse and two seasons of field hockey…won two Section I championships in lacrosse and was a two-time state finalist…served as a team captain in her senior season and was an All-Section honoree…set the school record in the 200m relay…earned high honor roll status all four years and was a member of the National Honor Society…recipient of the Sickle Family Scholarship and a scholarship from the Husker Club…coached girls lacrosse at the Yorktown Athletic Club and volunteered with the Alliance for Safe Kids, at the concession stand for the Husker Club and helped with the school's blood drive…played on the club circuit with House of Sports and Primetime in Westchester, New York…daughter of Elizabeth and Christopher Garti…has a younger brother, Griffin.


Maggie Ledwith (5-1 | Defense | Rockville Centre, N.Y. | Kellenberg Memorial): Played soccer, basketball and lacrosse, starting for two years in soccer and lacrosse…was a two-time NSCHSAA semifinalist in lacrosse and soccer and won a state championship in basketball…on the Bernie Ward Commitment Award twice in both soccer and lacrosse and once in basketball, while also being named the team MVP in soccer…earned honor roll status all four years and participated in the National Honor Society…volunteered with Relay for Life, as an Emergency Room volunteer, St. Agnes Cathedral School as an elementary CCD teacher, TOPS Soccer, as an altar server and in library service…played on the club circuit with Long Island Liberty Lacrosse…daughter of Georgiana Kane and Christopher Ledwith…has two younger brothers, Ryan and Liam…father played rugby at Niagara.
