EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette athletics continued its nominee announcements for the PARDees on Wednesday morning, announcing a pair of student-athletes up for the Charles L. Albert '08 Award. The nominees include baseball's
Spencer Rouse and football's
Jerry Powe.
The PARDees, an annual awards show that recognizes Lafayette's senior student-athletes for their accomplishments and contributions to their programs, will take place on Thursday, May 23, with a red carpet walk beginning at 4 p.m.
Four graduating seniors will receive special recognition as the Charles L. Albert '08 Awards and the Class of 1913 Trophies will be presented one male and one female each. The winners are determined by a vote from Lafayette's head coaches and athletic administration.
The Albert Award is presented annually to the senior male and female student-athletes who are judged to be the most outstanding athlete. The 1913 Trophy is presented to those who have attained the greatest distinction both as an athlete and a scholar.
The male nominees for the 1913 Trophy will be released on Thursday, leading up to that night's event. Information on the 2019 male nominees for the Albert Award can be found below.
Spencer Rouse, Baseball: Economics and Policy Studies major…three-year starter who served as a team captain in 2019…three-year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll…named a Second-Team All-Patriot League selection in 2019…finished third on the team in batting average and RBI in his senior season…member of the Oaks Leadership Academy who was honored as a Leader of Distinction…also active in the Investment Club.
Jerry Powe, Football: Mechanical Engineering major…four-year starter at linebacker, starting 38-of-43 games in his career…was an All-Patriot League First-Team selection in his senior season…finished with 67 tackles, five tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 2018, while serving as a team captain…was an All-Patriot League Second-Team honoree in 2016 and 2017…is one of 17 players in Lafayette history to achieve All-Patriot League status three times…was named the team's Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2015.
