BETHLEHEM, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) -
The Lafayette men's tennis team struggled for victories at the Patriot League Flighted Tournament at Lehigh on Saturday, but came up empty handed entering Sunday's final day of competition. Army and Navy dominated the courts on the first day of the event and will battle for eight of the nine possible titles on Sunday.
Lafayette's Mike Durette (Avon, Conn./Suffield Academy), H'Cone Thompson (Washington, D.C./DeMatha) and Dan Seward (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) were the Leopards who advanced to the semifinal round of the singles competition on Saturday, but Durette fell to Navy's Heath Marshall at the No. 5 seed, Thompson lost to Marshall Clay of Army at the No. 1 position and Seward fell to Army's John Sabia at the No. 2 seed.
The No. 1 doubles pairing of Thompson and Dan Seward (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) was also able to advance to the semifinals but were elimated by Navy's pair of Fisher and McGrath.
