BALTIMORE (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette women's tennis team improved to 5-1 overall with a 5-2 win over Coppin State this afternoon in Baltimore.
The Leopards failed to drop a set in the win over the Eagles, despite giving up two points by default.
Sophomores Ali Kelley (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) and Jessica Abel (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) played No. 1 and 2 singles for the Leopards and trounced their opponents 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0.
Sophomore Susan King (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) filled the No. 3 spot and came away with a 6-1, 6-3 win for Lafayette.
Playing in their first varsity matches of their career, freshmen Lindsay Napier (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) and Jennifer Mansh (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) notched wins by scores of 6-0, 7-5 and 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 5 and 6 singles spots for the Leopards.
Lafayette doubles teams of Abel/King and Kelley/Napier also recorded wins on the afternoon.
Lafayette (5-1) gears up to compete in the Patriot League Flighted Tournament hosted by Lehigh on Oct 20-21 beginning at 9 a.m.
