PHILADELPHIA (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's tennis team closed out the fall duel match season with a perfect 6-0 record as they downed La Salle 6-1 today in Philadelphia.
The Leopards' lone loss came at No. 1 singles where freshman Matt Coin (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway) suffered his first loss of the season at the hands of La Salle freshman Karim Rahimtoola in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 1-6.
Lafayette's No. 2 singles player H'Cone Thompson (Washington, D.C./DeMatha) completed his fall regular season by dropping the Explorer's Ryan Gargullo 7-5, 7-6 (2). Thompson improved to 9-0 overall with the win.
Sophomore Mike Durette (Avon, Conn./Suffield Academy) also improved to a perfect 6-0 in fall play as he defeated Andrew Hughes 6-0, 6-4.
The Leopards notched wins by Ryan Collins (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional), Dan Seward (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) and Devin Murphy (Ruxton, Md./Boys Latin School) who competed at the No. 3, 4 and six singles spots.
Lafayette (6-0) hopes to ride its momentum going into the Patriot League Flighted Tournament hosted by Lehigh on Oct.13-14. Matches begin at 9 a.m.
