The Leopards women's tennis team improved to 6-1 today with a win over La Salle at Sullivan Courts. The rescheduled match saw Lafayette improve to 6-1 for the fall season while La Salle drops to 2-4 overall.
No. 1 singles player Monika Serrano (Caracas, Venezuela/Wallenpaupak) fell to La Salle's Megan Donahue 6-3, 6-1, but teamed up with sophomore Ali Kelley (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) to win at No. 1 doubles 8-3. Kelley won her singles match at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-0.
Sophomores Lisa Sayed (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) and Jessica Abel (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) filled the No. 3 and 4 spots and picked up straight set wins on the afternoon.
Sophomore Susan King (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) and junior Katie Gibbons (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) competed at No. 5 and 6 singles for Lafayette and dropped their Explorer opponents 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2.
Lafayette doubles teams of Serrano/Kelley, Gibbons/Abel and King/Sayed each picked up wins.
Lafayette (6-1) gears up to compete in the Patriot League Flighted Tournament hosted by Lehigh on Oct 20-21 beginning at 9 a.m.
