LANCASTER, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - For the second time this season, the Lafayette women's tennis team shutout its opponents and improves to 4-1 with a win over Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster, Pa.
The Leopards dropped only two sets to the Diplomats as they swept the top five singles and top doubles matches.
Lafayette got straight set wins from Monika Serrano (Caracas, Venezuela/Wallenpaupak), Ali Kelley (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) and junior Katie Gibbons (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) who blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
The No. 4 singles match between Lafayette's Jessica Abel (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and F&M's Marie Papalia was suspended due to darkness with Abel leading 6-2, 4-5.
Sophomore Lisa Sayed (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) needed a tiebreaker to get past her opponent, 6-2, 2-6, (10-8). Sophomore Susan King (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) cam back after losing the first set to win in three sets, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Lafayette (4-1) is on the road again next week when they travel to Coppin State on Oct. 10 at 2:00.
