Men's Tennis Defeats Towson in Season Debut

TOWSON, Md. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's tennis team opened its season with a tight match against Towson and managed to squeak past the Tigers for a 4-3 victory.

Freshman Matt Coin (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway) notched his first collegiate win at No. 1 singles by defeating Towson's Bryan Rowland 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Junior co-captain H'Cone Thompson (Washington, D.C./DeMatha) picked up his first win of the season by dropping Towson's Trey Ragase 6-1, 6-2.

Sophomore Mike Durette (Avon, Conn./Suffield Academy) defeated Chris Rowland for the eventual match-winner 6-7 (4), 6-4 6-1.

Lafayette doubles teams of Collins/Durette and Devin Murphy/Coin also picked up wins on the afternoon.

The Leopards (1-0) return to action on Sept. 22 when they compete in the ECAC Tournament at 9:00 a.m.
