Women's Tennis Drops Towson

TOWSON, Md. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette women's tennis team traveled to Maryland to face-off with non-conference opponent Towson this afternoon and came home with a 5-2 victory.

Sophomore Monika Serrano (Caracas, Venezuela/Wallenpaupak) picked up a win at No. 1 singles versus Emily Weichert by a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Sophomores Lisa Sayed (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) and Jessica Abel (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) both turned in straight set victories in the No. 3 and 4 spots going 6-3, 6-0 adn 6-3, 6-2, respectively.

Susan King (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) and Katie Gibbons (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) put in a strong effort at No. 5 and 6 singles with 6-3, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-2 wins over their Tiger counterparts.

The Lafayette doubles team of Sayed/King picked up a win at the No. 3 spot with an 8-6 win.

Lafayette improves to 2-0 with the win and will return home to square off with Villanova on Sept. 27 at 3:00 p.m.
