Women's Tennis Falls to Villanova

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette women's tennis team played its home opener versus Villanova today and fell to the Wildcats 7-0 on Sullivan Courts.

Villanova (1-0) returned with two of its top players from last year's squad in seniors Ashley Young and Julie Darne who played No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Wildcats.

Sophomore Monika Serrano (Caracas, Venezuela/Wallenpaupak) put up a strong fight versus Young, but fell 6-4, 0-6, 6-4.

Co-captain Ali Kelley (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) played No. 2 singles and fell to Villanova's Darne 6-3, 6-1.

Lafayette's Lisa Sayed (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron), Jessica Abel (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial), Susan King (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) and Katie Gibbons (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) rounded out the top six for the Leopards.

Lafayette falls to 2-1 and looks to rebound versus St. Joseph's on Monday at 3:00 in Philadelphia.
