Men's Tennis Sweeps Monmouth 7-0

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's tennis team improves to a perfect 3-0 after sweeping Monmouth 7-0 in West Long Branch, N.J. this afternoon. The Leopards failed to drop a set to Monmouth who falls to 1-2 on the season.

Freshman Matt Coin (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway) and junior H'Cone Thompson (Washington, D.C./DeMatha) played No. 1 and 2 singles for Lafayette and defeated their Hawk counterparts 6-2, 7-5 and 6-0, 6-2 respectively.

Junior Ryan Collins (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) and junior co-captain Dan Seward (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) competed at No. 3 and 4 singles for the Leopards. Collins won 6-1, 6-1 while Seward took home the win by a score of 6-1, 6-0.

No. 5 and 6 singles positions were filled by sophomores Mike Durette (Avon, Conn./Suffield Academy) and Devin Murphy (Buxton, Md./Boys Latin School) who both came home with wins. Durette downed his Hawk opponent 6-1, 6-2 while Murphy won 7-5, 6-4.

Lafayette doubles teams of Thompson/Seward, Collins/Durette and Coin/Murphy also picked up wins on the afternoon.

The Leopards (3-0) return to action on Oct. 2 when they travel to Lancaster, Pa. to take on non-conference opponent Franklin & Marshall at 3:30.
