NEWARK, Del. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 5-2 loss to Delaware on Thursday in Newark, Del.
Freshman Matt Coin (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway) continues a succesful rookie season with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, while junior Ryan Collins (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) picked up a win at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
Lafayette's No. 2 singles player H'Cone Thompson (Washington, D.C./DeMatha) dropped a three-set match to Delaware's John Tully, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
Sophomore Devin Murphy (Ruxton, Md./Boys Latin School), freshman John Zazzu (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) and senior co-captain Mike Levey (Pine Brook, N.J./Montville) dropped matches at the No. 3, 4 and 5 singles spots.
Coin/Thompson fell No. 1 doubles, 8-5, while Collins/Zazzu and Murphy/Brian Shubert fell to the Blue Hens at No. 2 and 3 doubles.
Lafayette (6-1) returns to action on Saturday in a Patriot League tri-meet versus Army and Holy Cross in West Point, N.Y.
