PHILADELPHIA (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's tennis team rebounded from a league loss on Saturday to defeat non-conference foe Drexel, 6-0 in Philadelphia on Sunday. The Leopards swept all six singles matches and were 1-1 in doubles competition as they improve to 11-4 on the year.
Lafayette freshman Matt Coin (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway) toppled Drexel's Walid Jebbari at No. 1 singles in a three-set match, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, junior co-captain H'Cone Thompson (Washington, D.C./DeMatha) defeated the Dragons' Reda Akbil 6-4, 6-3.
Junior Ryan Collins (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) competed at No. 3 singles and handed Drexel's John Dinan a straight set loss, 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore Devin Murphy (Ruxton, Md./Boys Latin School) gave up just one game as he defeated Scott Nagao 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 5 singles, freshman John Zazzu (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) won 6-3, 6-2 while senior Mike Levey (Pine Brook, N.J./Montville) rounded out the singles sweep with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Drexel's Kellen Thomas.
Lafayette's doubles team of Coin/Thompson won at the No. 1 spot, 9-7. Drexel's No. 3 team of Alex Sutton/Michael Leibowitz beat the Leopards' team of Murphy/Brian Schubert (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Godwin), 8-1. The No. 2 doubles match did not finish.
Lafayette (11-4, 1-2) returns to action on Wednesday when it returns home to host Loyola at 3 p.m.
