Women's Tennis Downs Drexel, 5-2

PHILADELPHIA (www.lafayette.edu) - Behind a solid effort in doubles, Lafayette defeated Drexel, 5-2, in women's tennis action in Philadelphia on Sunday. The Leopards won four of the six singles events and swept all three doubles matches for the win.

Drexel won the top two singles matches led by Yolanda Duron, who defeated Lafayette's Lily Fardshisheh (Potomac, Md./Holton Arms), 2-6, 6-2, (7-3) at the No. 1 spot. The Dragons' Meryem Chaoui defeated the Leopards' Monika Serrano (Caracas, Venezuela/Wallenpaupak) in No. 2 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Leopard junior Shannon Rowe (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) won the No. 3 singles match versus Lynn Pigliacampi, 6-4, 6-2 while sophomore Ali Kelley (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) defeated Brandy Tricker, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.

Sophomores Jessica Abel (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and Lisa Sayed (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) each picked up straight set wins at No 5 and 6 singles. Abel won 6-0, 6-2 over Michelle Septak while Sayed beat Samara Porter 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles action, Lafayette's Fardshisheh/Rowe teamed up at No. 1 doubles for a 9-7 win over Duron/Chaoui while Serrano/Kelley won at the No. 2 spot over the Dragons' Pigliacampi/Tricker. At No. 3 doubles, Abel/Sayed defeated Drexel's Deptak/Kristen Scally, 8-2.

Lafayette (11-3, 0-1) returns home to host Loyola in non-conference action on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
