Lafayette Athletic Teams Are On The Move

Aug. 21, 2002

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette fall sports teams will take time out from their preseason practices Thursday to participate in Move-In Day 2002. The student-athletes and coaches of the football, volleyball and cheerleading squads will spend the morning helping incoming freshmen settle into their dorms.

For the first time in the program's three-year history, student-athletes and coaches will be wearing maroon and white t-shirts labeling themselves as "Move-In Day Crew." The College's Office of Student Residence and the Leopard football team initiated the program in August 1999.

"The incoming students that use our student-athletes are very receptive of the service that they provide," said Associate Director of Athletics George Bright said. "I'm sure it's a pleasant surprise for the students and their parents to pull up in front of their dorms and find people who are willing and able to help."

Move-In Day will mark the end of the football team's seven-day stretch of two-a-day practices. The team will resume preseason workouts at 4 p.m. on Thursday at Metzgar Field.

Football camp concludes with an intrasquad scrimmage Aug. 25 at 9 a.m. at Fisher Field. The Leopards open the 2002 season against Monmouth on Sept. 7 at Fisher Field.
