NEWARK, Del. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Delaware in the spring season opener on Monday. The match was concluded indoors due to inclement weather.
Freshman Andrew Mott (Corpus Christi, Texas/Mary Carroll) was a double-winner for the Leopards, claiming a 9-8(7-4) decision at first singles and teaming with Devin Murphy (Buxton, Md./Boys Latin School) for a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles.
Sophomore Craig Helstowski's (Shrewsbury, Mass./St. John) 8-6 win at sixth singles was the only other win for the Leopards on the day.
The loss is the first for Lafayette (7-1), who steamrolled to a 7-0 record during the fall season.
Lafayette is back in action on Saturday, visiting St. Francis (Pa.) at 1 p.m.
