EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette women's tennis team won the doubles point to scratch out a 4-3 win over Siena on Saturday, then defeated Drexel 7-0 on Sunday to finish its fall slate at 9-0. Both matches were held at Sullivan Courts.
Siena posted straight set wins at first, second and fourth singles to claim its three points. Ansley Scudder went to a second-set tiebreak for a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 5, and Stephanie Rosman pulled out a 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 6 singles for the Leopards. Julia Strang remained undefeated with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at third singles.
Chez Saricas teamed with Strang for an 8-2 win at first doubles, and Lisa Fung-Kee-Fung and Lauren Clarke improved to 8-0 as a doubles pairing with an 8-3 win at second doubles. At third doubles, Scudder and Rosman were victorious in an 8-3 decision.
On Sunday against Drexel, Lafayette won each of the singles matches in straight sets. In first singles action, Saricas blanked Emily Lewis, 6-0, 6-0, and Fung-Kee-Fung defeated Mellissa Lewis, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Strang (6-0, 6-2), Scudder (6-1, 6-2), Rosman (6-4, 7-5) and Meghan Fitzgerald (6-2, 6-4) were also winners for the Leopards.
The top two doubles teams of Saricas/Strang and Fung-Kee-Fung/Clarke both won their matches 8-4. Rosman and Sarah Sykes were 8-5 winners at third doubles.
Lafayette will compete at the ITA East Regionals from Oct. 22-25 at West Point, N.Y. to conclude its fall schedule.
