EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Julia Strang's three-set win gave Lafayette a 4-3 decision over New Jersey Institute of Technology, while the Leopards easily handled Mount St. Mary's and La Salle in women's tennis on Saturday and Sunday.
Lafayette won all three doubles matches against NJIT to earn a point, then split the six singles pairings for the victory. Strang dropped the first set of her match with Eva Salierno but came back to win 3-6, 6-0, 6-4. Jacqui Bonder and Lauren Clarke won at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Stephanie Rosman dropped a third-set tiebreak, 10-8, in the third singles match.
Chez Saricas teamed with Strang for an 8-3 victory at first doubles against Mount St. Mary's, and also won at second and third singles. Lisa Fung-Kee-Fung and Ansley Scudder were also double winners against the Mount.
Saricas, Fung-Kee-Fung and Strang won at first through third singles on Sunday afternoon vs. La Salle. Meghan Fitzgerald and Sarah Sykes also picked up victories. Fung-Kee-Fung and Clarke renewed their effective doubles pairing from a year ago with an 8-5 win in the first flight.
The Leopards are off until Oct. 1-2 when they play St. Francis (N.Y.) and Saint Joseph's.
