EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette swept road matches at Rider and La Salle, and used its strength in doubles play for a 4-3 home win over Duquesne on Saturday as the Leopards' men's tennis team improved its fall record to 5-0 last weekend.
On Friday afternoon at Rider, Andrew Mott dropped just one game at first singles, and Lee Kojanis blanked his opponent at sixth singles as Lafayette won all six singles matches in straight sets. The Leopards also claimed all three doubles matches for the final point of the 7-0 victory.
Against Duquesne, Lafayette got strong doubles play from its top two teams for the deciding point in a 4-3 victory. Paul Guarino and Peter Titus won 8-4 at No. 1, and Mott and Jeremy Fehrs were 8-3 winners at No. 2. Guarino, Brett Kraft and Kojanis won their singles matches for the Leopards.
Mott shut out his opponent, 6-0, 6-0, on Sunday afternoon at La Salle as the Explorers won more than two games in a singles match just twice all day. Brett Warren won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles, and Kraft won by the same score in the fourth slot. All three doubles teams were victorious as well.
Lafayette will host Robert Morris on Saturday, Sept. 24 and welcome Fordham to Sullivan Courts on Sunday. Both matches will begin at noon.
