EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Friday and Saturday, highlighting the weekend with a 6-1 over St. Peter's after falling to St. Joe's a day earlier.
Mild showers on Saturday forced the teams to move indoors, but even that did not stop Lafayette's roll. Rain cancelled the first doubles set, but the Leopards took the second and third flights to win the doubles point. Sophomores Ansley Scudder and Sarah Sykes teamed to win at No. 2, blanking Kristy Bonner and Meredith Earley of St. Peter's, 8-0. Sophomore Nancy Parker and freshman Elena Apostolides posted an 8-1 win over Andrea Estay and Jing Cheung at No. 3.
The Leopards took five of six singles points, as sophomore Julia Strang defeated Vanessa Pangikas by 6-2, 6-2 scores. Scudder, Sykes, Parker and senior Danielle Bailey all came away victors in more singles action. Parker and Bailey downed their opponents by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
On Friday, the Leopards traveled to St. Joe's and came up empty, dropping a 7-0 match to the Hawks.
Lafayette returns to action on Oct. 14 as the team hosts St. Francis (Pa.) at noon at Sullivan Courts.
