WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Significant rainfall all day on Sunday forced the Lafayette men's tennis team's match at Bucknell to move inside, and it was the Bison that warmed up from there in a 7-0 win over Lafayette. The teams played at 3 p.m. at the West Branch Tennis Center in nearby Williamsport, Pa.
The Leopards were coming off a 7-0 shutout of Wagner on Friday, but could not hold momentum into Sunday's action. Lafayette put together a valiant effort in all three doubles matches, but it was the Bison picking up the point with a sweep.
In singles action, junior Paul Guarino and freshman Eric Wiley went down in the first and second flights, respectively, while on the third court junior Brett Kraft did all that he could do. The co-captain finally succumbed to Zach Hascoe in what was a back-and-forth 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 decision.
Freshman Steven Benezra also took Bucknell's Ben Young to a breaker in a 7-6 (4) first set before Young took the second 6-2.
Lafayette hits the court again this weekend for the Patriot League Tournament in Annapolis, Md. The event is scheduled to run from Saturday through Monday at the Navy Tennis Courts.
