STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - After postponing their match against Wagner due to inclement weather, the Lafayette men's and women's tennis teams proved the extra 24 hours was worth the wait. Both teams blanked the Seahawks 7-0 on Monday afternoon in Staten Island, N.Y.
Junior Matt McGranaghan claimed his sets 6-1, 6-0 against Ben Serbiak in the first singles match. Freshman Doug Gallagher followed by winning his match against Yirmeyah Beckles 6-2, 6-0.
Junior Steven Benezra continued Lafayette's winning ways by defeating Sheldon Wilson 6-1, 6-0.
Sophomore James Sparacio and junior James Murphy won their matches without allowing their opponents a single set. Freshman Andrew Morris wrapped up the singles matches with a default win.
McGranaghan and Sparacio won their doubles match over Serbiak and Beckles 8-3. Freshman duo Gallagher and Morris defeated Wilson and Robert Santana 8-0. Sparacio and Murphy won by default.
The women's tennis team also won all of their matches starting off with sophomore Allie Seranko, who defeated Brittany Frazza 6-3, 6-1.
Senior Ansley Scudder won both of her sets 6-1, and classmate Sarah Sykes claimed her sets 6-0.
Sophomore Rachel Rohinsky won her match against Joanna Ciavarella 6-0, 6-1. Senior Nancy Parker and freshman Caitlin Gordon emerged from their wins without allowing a single point.
Scudder and Sykes won Lafayette's first doubles match 8-7. The teams of Seranko and Gordon and Rohinsky and Kristie Cavanagh both won their doubles matches 8-0.
Coming up for the Leopards, the women's team will travel to Rider on Oct. 8 at 3 p.m. while the men's team will begin the three-day Hampton Road Invitational on Oct. 10.
