EASTON, Pa. - Two league opponents got the better of the Lafayette men's tennis team this weekend. The Leopards lost 5-2 to Colgate on Saturday and 4-3 to Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa., on Sunday.
Colgate picked up the doubles point by sweeping the three matches, though Michael Yassky and Jamie Pellechi barely edged Andrew Morris and James Murphy in the No. 3 doubles, 8-7 (1).
After losing his first set 6-1, Eric Wiley bounced back with 6-4, 6-0 wins to take the No. 1 singles win. Murphy also emerged with a win by claiming both of his sets 6-3 in the No. 5 singles.
The Leopards traveled to Lewisburg, Pa., on Sunday, and the Bison escaped with a 4-3 victory. Bucknell swept the doubles matches, but a few of the Leopards got the better of their opponents in singles competition.
Doug Gallagher downed Anton Kovic in No. 2 singles with 6-2 wins in both sets. Murphy lost his first set but came back with 6-2, 6-4 wins in the next two sets for the win.
Kyle MacLelland wrapped up Lafayette's final point in the No. 6 singles by besting Gregory Maxson, 6-2, 6-4.
The Leopards (6-11) return home for their final regular season contest on Thursday against West Chester at 3:30 p.m.
