WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Lafayette men's tennis team got its first taste of conference action this weekend in a 7-0 loss against Army on Friday and a 6-1 win over Holy Cross on Saturday.

The Leopards fought hard against the Black Knights and though they came close, Lafayette could not pull a single win. Eric Wiley dropped his second set in No. 1 singles 7-5, Doug Gallagher dropped his two sets 7-6, 7-5 in the No. 2 singles and Kyle MacLelland dropped his second set 7-6 in the No. 6 singles.

Against Holy Cross, Lafayette won the doubles point after claiming all three matches. Gallagher, MacLelland and James Murphy each posted double victories against the Crusaders.

After pairing with MacLelland to win the No. 2 doubles, Gallagher met Angelo Sica again in the No. 2 singles and won both sets, 7-5.

MacLelland cruised to a win over Jay DeSanto in 6-0, 6-3 sets and Murphy defeated Chris Das for the second time on Saturday in the No. 6 singles in 6-1, 6-0 sets.

With Steven Benezra and Lee Kojanis' victories, the Leopards emerged with wins in all but the No. 1 singles.

Lafayette (6-8) continues its conference slate with back-to-back home matches against Navy on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. before meeting Colgate on Saturday at 1 p.m.
