PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Lafayette women's tennis team competed in the St. Joseph's Fall Invitational over the weekend.
In the first flight of singles, Liza Blank competed against St. Joe's Devi Jadeja and was defeated 6-2, 6-0, while captain Emily DeLuca dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision against Sally Kalani Stainier.
In singles flight two Lucy Bass and Kristie Cavanagh were defeated 6-0, 6-1 by Delaware and Temple, respectively. In her first-round consolation match, Cavanagh was leading 5-2 in the first set against Laura Matz when her opponent retired.
In singles flight three Alison Dally fell to Mary Washington's Catherine Malcolm 6-1, 6-1. Kate Herman went against St. Joe's Tara Walsh but was taking down 6-0, 6-3.
Julia Morrissey and Austin Denesuk competed in singles flight four, Morrissey dropped a tough battle to St. Joe's Alexis Arons, 6-3, 6-1, while Denesuk fell 6-1, 6-0 to Delaware's Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstron.
In the singles consolation flight four, Morrissey picked up a win against St. Joe's Michele Vona and Denesuk defeated Jenna Procyk 7-6 (3), 6-2.
In doubles play, DeLuca and Bass fell to Mary Washington 8-1, while Blank and Denesuk dropped 8-0 in the first flight. In doubles flight two, Dally and Cavanagh lost to Villanova 8-2 and the team of Herman and Morrissey gave up a 8-3 battle against St. Joe's.
The women's team will take part in the Lehigh Invitational on Oct. 16-17 in Bethlehem, Pa.
