WEST POINT, N.Y. - Junior Doug Gallagher and freshman Will Mercorella both won their singles matches - then teamed up for a doubles victory - but the Lafayette men's tennis team was defeated in its Patriot League opener by Army, 5-2.
With the loss, the Leopards fall to 3-6 on the spring season.
Gallagher rallied to a three-set win at No. 2 singles, while Mercorella swept at the No. 6 spot to account for the Leopards' pair of wins. The duo then teamed up for a win at No. 2 doubles, though Lafayette was bested for the doubles point.
The Leopards return to the courts at West Point tomorrow morning for a 9 a.m. Patriot League showdown with Holy Cross.
