EASTON, Pa. -
The Lafayette men's tennis team put together an impressive sweep of Wagner on Saturday afternoon at Northwood Racquet Club. Three Leopards won their single matches by a 6-0, 6-0 score as Lafayette took every match in straight sets.
With the win, the Leopards improve their spring tally to 2-1.
Lafayette claimed the doubles point thanks to 8-0 victories from junior Doug Gallagher and senior Kyle MacLelland at No. 1 and freshman Will Mercorella and junior Matthew Scheps at No. 2. The Seahawks defaulted the No. 3 doubles match to sophomore Scott Gelbman and junior Andrew Morris.
Senior Justin Haar won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Gelbman, freshman Sinan Ipeker and freshman Matt Shapiro were flawless in 6-0, 6-0 victories, and Morris held a 4-1 lead in the first set at No. 5 singles when his opponent retired due to injury. Mercorella did not play at No. 6 singles, as Wagner defaulted the point.
The Leopards will play the first of five matches in California on Sunday, March 13 at UC San Diego. Skidmore, Loyola Marymount, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Caltech also await Lafayette in the Golden State.
