BETHLEHEM, Pa. -The Lafayette men's tennis team made the short trip to Bethlehem, Pa for the Patriot League Kickoff this past weekend.
Lafayette senior Jake Lazer had a consistent weekend notching victories on all three days of play in Bethlehem. On Friday, he won a doubles match with senior Brian Pinkard by a score of 8-5 over freshman Jacob Dougherty and sophomore Win Reynolds of Colgate. The following day he beat freshman Gregory Shannon of Army in singles (6-4, 6-7 (5), 10-7). On the last day of play, Lazer came out as the only victorious Leopard against Lehigh by a count of 6-2, 6-4 in a singles match over junior Ricardo Prince.
Pinkard, Lazer's doubles partner, won a singles match on Saturday against Army by a score of 6-2, 6-3 over freshman Michael Nguyen in addition to the doubles win against Colgate.
Junior Chris Matturi and freshman Evan Alexander came out with a doubles win over Colgate sophomores Chris Martinez and Gabe Lazar on day one. Alexander played with junior Gavin Studner the following day against Army's sophomore Cameron Voigt and junior Sam Jang-Milsten and win by a score of 8-3. Matturi went on to win a singles match against sophomore Kyle Barnes of Army on Saturday (4-6, 7-6 (6), 10-7).
Sophomore T.J. Morgan won his singles match against Chris Martinez of Colgate on the first day 8-5 to round out the victories for the Leopards on the weekend.
This weekend's play was the final competition of the fall season. The Leopards start up again with the 2015 slate on Jan. 30, 2015 against Niagara in Bethlehem, Pa at 6 p.m.
