EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette women's tennis team closed its 2016 league season on Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 7-0 decision to Loyola at Sullivan Courts.
Caroline Nixon and Rocine Moschella fell in a pair of three-setters, while the Hounds took all three of the doubles matches on their way to the victory. Nixon came back from a first-set tiebreak defeat to force a third set with a 6-4 win in the second, but fell in the deciding third, 10-7. Moschella lost the opener, 6-3, won the second, 7-5, and came out on the low end of a 10-5 score in the third.
"Rocine and Caroline fought hard in their three-set matches," interim head coach Ralph Van Ormer said. "Overall, this was one of our best team efforts of the season."
The loss moves the Leopards' final league record to 1-6 and drops them to 4-12 overall on the year. The final match of the regular season takes place on Sunday, hosting Villanova at 11 a.m. Patriot League Tournament play begins on April 21.
