WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a battle between the two remaining conference-unbeaten teams in the Patriot League, American scored early and made that tally stand up against the Lafayette field hockey team on Saturday morning in Washington, D.C., defeating the Leopards by a 1-0 score.

The loss drops the Maroon and White to the two seed in the Patriot League Tournament and American earns the right to host the four-team field next weekend. Lafayette will take on the three seed (yet to be determined), while American will play the four seed with the winners to battle in the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Lafayette finishes the 2019 regular season campaign at 11-7 overall and 5-1 in conference play. American improves to 11-5 this season, going 6-0 in Patriot League action.

The lone goal of the game came with 6:38 remaining in the opening quarter. American's Hannah Moser made a run along the end line and beat Lafayette goalkeeper
Sarah Park across the cage and into the far side.

Park made three saves on 11 shots faced with one goal allowed in defeat, while American's Caroline Miller tallied three saves as well on just four shots faced. The home side led in shots overall, 11-4, and earned four corner opportunities with none allowed.

Grace Angelella provided the offense for the Maroon and White with two shots on goal and one shot on goal, respectively. The game is the first of the season where Lafayette has not recorded at least one corner chance.
