EASTON, Pa. – Seniors
Adam Bramson of the men's soccer team and
Lisa van der Geest of the field hockey team have been selected as the 2019-20 Maroon Club Scholar-Athletes of the Year, it was announced on Friday night.
To be eligible for the award, select student-athletes must be nominated by their coaches who, along with athletic administrators, vote for the male and female winners. The awards were presented at the Maroon Club Hall of Fame Dinner in
Kirby Sports Center.
Bramson (Dover, Mass/Milton Academy) was a three-year starter for the Leopards who was in the opening eleven in 49 of 62 career games. He scored three goals, all in Patriot League play, as a defender in his senior season and helped guide Lafayette to an appearance in the 2019 Patriot League Championship game for the first time since 2012.
A Dean's List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection, Bramson holds a 3.73 cumulative GPA while majoring in English and Film & Media Studies with a minor in Theater. Bramson is a member of the Oaks Leadership Academy and the men's soccer leadership council. He spent three years as a writing associate for the college writing program and also has acted in three plays over his time at Lafayette.
"Adam is a productive athlete, successful student and a highly engaged member of our campus community," said Lafayette men's soccer coach
Dennis Bohn. "I have coached many good players and smart kids but Adam is a rare student-athlete. He is a young man who meets a very high standard of performance on the field, leadership off the field, achievement in the classroom and positive campus-wide influence."
Van der Geest (Oegstgeest, Netherlands/ Rijnlands Lyceum) adds the Maroon Club Scholar-Athlete award to a growing list of accomplishments, already named the Patriot League Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Nov. 7 and the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year on Nov. 5.
A force on both ends of the field in her final campaign, van der Geest propelled Lafayette to a Patriot League championship game appearance and a 5-1 conference clip. Defensively, she captained a unit that recorded eight shutouts on the year, the most for the program since 2009, and offensively, she led the Maroon and White in points with 23 points on eight goals and seven assists.
A four-time All-Patriot League selection (Second Team in 2016-17, First Team in 2018-19), van der Geest secured NFHCA Regional All-America First-Team honors and National All-America Third-Team laurels following her junior campaign.
An International Affairs major, van der Geest carries a 3.70 GPA. She serves as a peer mentor, volunteers at Safe Harbor and assists with after-school activities at local elementary schools.
"Lisa is one of the top athletes ever to come through our program, and has been a standout since she has been on campus. She is elite and absolutely deserving of this award," said 2019 Patriot League Field Hockey Coach of the Year
Jennifer Stone. "She is humble and is the team leader. Lisa represents the program and athletic department with complete grace and gratitude."
Van der Geest and Bramson were recognized prior to the inductions of Dan Bengele '98, Bill Hogarty '55, Steve Feldman '76, Kim Stone and the 1948 football team.
