EASTON, Pa. -- Freshman
Maureen McCormack contributed to wins in both doubles and singles but it wasn't enough as Lafayette Women's tennis was edged by visiting Niagara 4-3 in the first home match of the spring season conducted outdoors on the Sullivan Courts.
McCormack teamed with
Samantha Snyder to shut out the Purple Eagles tandem at No. 2 doubles 6-0. The doubles team point went on the other side of the ledger, however, as the visitors captured close matches at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
The Leopards rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the match with victories by McCormack at No. 4 singles and
Meredith Block and
Katie Hill at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. The final two team points went to Niagara with a pair of three-set wins in the top two singles positions.
Next up on the schedule is a non-league match with East Stroudsburg scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday on the Sullivan Courts.
