ITHACA, N.Y. – The Lafayette field hockey team couldn't get enough going to pull off the road victory on Monday afternoon in Ithaca, New York, as Cornell sandwiched two goals around a single Leopards tally in a 4-1 defeat.
Â
The Big Red came out firing with two goals in the opening frame to take early control of the contest. That line held through the halftime break before senior
Sam Di Maio's tally in the third brought the Leopards back within one. Cornell answered a minute later, however, and added a fourth in the final frame to seal it.
Â
The loss drops Lafayette to 3-5 overall on the year, while Cornell improves to 3-1.
Â
Senior
Sarah Park did what she could between the pipes, suffering her fifth loss with one save in defeat. On the other side, Cornell's Maddie Henry stopped five scoring chances in her 54 minutes of action for the win.
Â
Di Maio's goal came on her only shot on goal of the day, joining four other Leopards with shots on target. Senior captain
Lisa van der Geest registered seven shots to lead all offensive outputs, but was able to put just one on frame. The Leopards were dominant in shots overall, 17-5, and recorded six corners, while giving up just one to the home side.

The Maroon and White move back into Patriot League play in their next contest this weekend, hosting Colgate to kick off the Saturday Homecoming festivities at 12 p.m. at Rappolt Field.
