Playing No. 1 singles, the Beverly Farms, Mass. native defeated Niagara's Jorge Sedeno in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) on Sunday at the Village Glen Tennis Club in Orchard Park, N.Y. Barry also partnered with co-captain
John Yurconic to knock off Sedeno and Manuel Alonso in an exciting 7-6 matchup at No. 1 doubles.
"Will is a great player who plays the game with sheer determination," head coach
Ralph Van Ormer said. "His ability to beat #1 players from other teams makes him an elite asset to our program."
Barry is the first Lafayette men's player to receive weekly honors since the Patriot League migrated from a monthly award in 2015. On the women's side, sophomore Maureen McCormack received honorable mention from the league office following wins at No.3 singles and No. 2 doubles in the Leopards 5-2 victory at Niagara.
The men's and women's teams are off for the next 10 days for spring break although the women will be participating in some training at the Bermuda National Tennis Center. Both teams will head to West Point, N.Y. for Patriot League matches from March 20-22. In addition to host Army, the men will face Holy Cross and the women will battle the Black Knights, Crusaders and Boston University.
