Men and Women Victorious in Colgate Dual Meet

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette swimming and diving team continued their season today against Colgate in a dual meet. The men won with a score of 144-70, while the women also won with a final score of 136-111. 

On the men's side, the Leopards won nine races on the day. The first win came in the 200 yard medley relay, as the foursome of James Lapsley, Michael Gorgan, Avery Letourneau, and Ben Arky finished first in a final time of 1:34.87 to score the first 11 points on the day.

Letourneau came back later in the meet to gain the first solo win for the Leopards, winning the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:45.88 to add another nine points to his meet total. Finishing second and third in the race were Aaron Tupper (1:46.20) and Antonio Arena (1:46.93) to add another seven points in the event.

Gorgan also got back in on the winning, finishing first in the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 21.51 to add another nine points to his meet total. Kyle Mazziotti (22.07) and Arky (22.17) finished second and third in the race to add another combined seven points in the event.

In the 200 yard IM, two first years lead the way, finishing first and second in the race. Leading the way was Andrew Campbell in a time of 1:58.18 to score nine points, with Thomas Krystkiewicz right behind him in a time of 1:58.68 to add another four points in the event.

Naoki Nomura also had strong performances in the the diving events, finishing first in both the three meter and one meter events with total scores of 150.68 and 159.45 to add 18 points to his meet total.

The 100 yard butterfly was another success event, as the Leopards took home first through fourth in the race. Leading the pack was Letourneau again, finishing first in a time of 50.76 for another nine points. Behind him was Peter Kawash (51.49), Jamison Crow (53.68) and Dylan Phee (55.06) to add another combined seven points in the event.

The 100 yard freestyle was also dominated by the Leopards, as they once again took home first through fourth place in the event. Tupper lead the way in this race, finishing first in a time of 47.04 for another nine meet points. Behind him was Arena (48.29), Campbell (49.04), and Arky (49.09) to add another seven points.

Lapsley came back later in the meet to also win the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 51.65 to add another nine points to his meet total. Behind him in second and third were Timothy Jimenez (54.44) and Krystkiewicz (54.58) to add another seven points.

On the women's side, the Leopards won nine events on the day. The first win on the day came in the 200 yard medley relay, as the foursome of Danielle Carr, Haleigh Marzano, Sophia Toomey, and Samantha Talecki finished first in a time of 1:50.82 to score the first 11 points on the day.

Marzano came back later in the meet to get the first solo win on the day for Lafayette, winning the 200 yard IM in a final time of 2:15.07 to add another nine points to her meet total. She also finished first in the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 1:08.80 for another nine points. Behind Marzano in the event were Tara Leininger (2nd, 1:10.18), Margaret Champagne (3rd, 1:11.74), and Anya Pelshaw (4th, 1:11.76) to add another seven points in the event.

The one meter diving event was also a successful event for the Leopards, as they took home first and second. Leading the way was Shaylee Daniels with a total score of 196.95 to score nine points in the event. Behind her was Eden Ephraim with a total score of 189.83 to score another four event points. Both Daniels and Ephraim also finished first and second in the three meter diving as well, with scores of 207.38 and 177.08 respectively to add another combined 13 points in the event.

Toomey's day was not finished, as she later came back to win the 100 yard butterfly in a final time of 58.93 to add another nine points to her strong day.

Tara Leininger also got in on the winning action, finishing first in the 100 yard freestyle in a final time of 54.96 to score nine points in the event.

The 100 yard backstroke also produced some great results for Lafayette, finishing first and second in the event. Leading the way was Maggie Ivie in a time of 59.34 to score her first nine points in the day. Carr finished behind her in second in a time of 1:00.70 to add another four points to her meet total.

Closing out the wins on the day for the Leopards was the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Katie Blaisure, Ivie, Kristen O'Connor, and Talecki, winning the race in a time of 1:40.27 to score the final 11 points in the victory on the day. 

The Leopards return to action on Saturday, November 6th in a quad meet against Navy, Bucknell, and American.
