ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Lafayette swimming and diving team continued their season Saturday afternoon in a quad meet against home team Navy, American, and Bucknell. Both the men and women defeated American, but fell to Navy and Bucknell.
On the men's side,
Avery Letourneau had a strong day for the Leopards. In the 100 yard butterfly, he finished second overall in a time of 50.84. The second place finish was tied for the highest finish for the men on the day. He came back later in the meet to also finish seventh in the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 1:57.03.Â
The other second place finish on the day came from the 200 yard freestyle relay team. The foursome of
Aaron Tupper,
Ben Arky,
Antonio Arena, and
Michael Gorgan finished second overall in a time of 1:20.07.
Gorgan built on that finish, and later came back to finish tied for fourth in the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:08.29. His day was not finished yet, as he then came back to finish fifth in the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 57.08.
James Lapsley also had a solid meet for Lafayette, finishing third in the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 52.69. Lapsley later returned to finish seventh in the 200 yard backstroke in a final time of 1:59.69. Lapsley was also a part of the 200 yard medley relay, joining Gorgan, Letourneau, and Tupper to finish sixth overall in a final time of 1:34.11.Â
Naoki Nomura also got in on the action, finishing fifth overall in the three meter diving with a total score of 132.60.
Tupper's day was also not finished, as he came back to finish sixth overall in the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 21.41.
Another sixth place finish came from
Peter Kawash in the 200 yard backstroke, crossing the finish line in a time of 1:58.61.
Andrew Campbell also got in on the action, finishing seventh overall in the 200 yard freestyle in a final time of 1:45.60. He also finished seventh in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 4:47.73.
On the women's side,
Sophia Toomey had the highest finish on the day, finishing fourth overall in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 59.01.
Maggie Ivie also had a strong meet for the Leopards, In the 100 yard backstroke, she finished fifth overall in a time of 59.44. She came back later in the 200 yard backstroke with a sixth place finish in a time of 2:11.18. She also was a part of the 200 yard freestyle relay with
Maya Byrne,
Samantha Talecki, and
Katie Blaisure that finished fifth overall in a time of 1:41.13.
A big sixth place swim came from
Haleigh Marzano this afternoon, as she finished in a time of 2:15.96.
Paige Griggs also had a solid meet for the Leopards, finishing seventh overall in the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 10:53.34.
Tara Leininger got in on the action as well, finishing eighth overall in the 200 yard freestyle in a final time of 1:56.63. She also finished eighth again in the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 55.50. Finishing one spot ahead of her in race was
Kristen O'Connor, finishing seventh overall in a time of 55.08.
Talecki also came back later in the meet to finish eighth overall in the 50 yard freestyle in a closing time of 25.19.
The Leopards return to action on Friday, November 19th against rival Lehigh in a dual meet starting at 6:00PM.Â
