ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Lafayette College women's tennis swept through its Patriot League Championships opening round match against Holy Cross, 4-0, on Thursday afternoon at Navy's Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium.

The Leopards (4-6, 1-4 PL) didn't drop a single set in either doubles or the six rubbers of singles during their first contest of the postseason.

Lafayette's longtime doubles duo of Samantha Snyder and Cecelia Lesnick got things started with a 6-1 win in the second flight, while senior Ruthie Wilson partnered with sophomore Melanie Sparhawk for a 6-0 win in the third flight that secured the doubles point over the Crusaders (0-8, 0-4 PL).

Sophomore Jessica Siegel dominated from start to finish in her third-flight singles match in a 6-0, 6-1 win. This is her team-high sixth singles win of the season.

Lesnick and Sparhawk followed their doubles success with straight-sets wins on the singles court. Lesnick earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at the fourth flight, while Sparhawk tallied the match-winning point also with 6-1, 6-2 victory at the fifth flight.

Snyder, Maureen McCormack and Halle DeNardo each won the first sets of their singles matches before those flights were halted when Lafayette had secured the victory.

The win moves the Leopards to 5-1 in the Patriot League Championships opening round since 2014.

Lafayette moves into the quarterfinals, taking on top-seeded Boston University Friday at 8:30 a.m.
