RICHMOND, Va. – The Lafayette field hockey team was defeated by the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon. The Leopards are currently 1-3 overall (0-0 PL) and will see one more weekend of play before facing the first Patriot League opponent, American, on Sept. 17.
VCU struck first at 14:31 with a goal from Camila Rosenbrock, assisted by Bridget McCormick. The Rams earned a second goal from McCormick, assisted by Skyler Padgett, at 21:41.
Senior forward
Molly McAndrew tallied her second goal of the weekend at 47:59 to put the Leopards on the board.
VCU retaliated at 52:04 before sophomore midfielder
Lineke Spaans fired back with Lafayette's final goal (56:14).
The Leopards held the advantage in total shots (9-5), as well as penalty corners (1-0).
Lafayette's freshman goalkeeper,
Raffi Fragomeni, made one saves in the loss before sharing the net with junior
Emma Garvey. Her VCU counterpart, Sheridan Messier, made seven.
The Leopards return to Easton on Friday to host Quinnipiac.
