Field Hockey Takes New Hampshire to the Wire

Leopards set to close out regular season on Friday at Delaware

EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette field hockey was defeated in a non-conference battle with New Hampshire, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon.l at Rappolt Field. 

Junior defender Katie Gibb struck first off of a tip during a penalty corner shot from Lena Thedrian, putting Lafayette into an early lead at 43:14 in the third quarter. The tally marked Gibb's third goal in just as many consecutive games.

The Wildcats found an answer 10 minutes later (Q4 53:11) using a loose drive by Tasmin Cookman.

New Hampshire was gifted a penalty stroke following a scrum for the ball in Lafayette's circle with one minute left in regulation. The opponent's Nicole Poulakis secured her team's game-winning goal, firing it into the upper net.

New Hampshire held the advantage in total shots (14-13) and penalty corners (4-2).

Lafayette's senior goalkeeper Raffi Fragomeni made a season-high nine saves in the loss. Her Wildcat counterpart, Abby Johnson, matched her efforts.

The Leopards close out the regular season with another non-league game at Delaware on Friday. The opening whistle is slated for 5 p.m.
