No. 17 Field Hockey Dominates Lehigh in Record-Breaking Game

Van Gool leads Leopards with nine points in one outing

EASTON, Pa.- On Friday afternoon at Rappolt Field, Lafayette field hockey score a single-game Patriot League and program-record 11 goals to take down Lehigh in a shutout. The No. 17 Leopards improved to 12-2 (5-0 PL) with an undefeated home record of 7-0, a Rivalry series win streak of four games and a season win streak of three games.

The previous single-game scoring record for the conference was also held by the Leopards, who scored 10 goals to win 10-2 against Albany on Oct. 31, 2002.

Sophomore defender Rosalie van Gool led the charge with nine points, including three goals and three assists. Her point total registered only one short of the Patriot League single-game points record (10), last completed by Lafayette's Suzi Farrell '92 in 1990.

In the first quarter of the contest, Lafayette matched its single-game scoring total of the year, 4-0, over the Rivalry opponent. Van Gool, Stella Malinowski, Lena Thedrian and Laila Pasic all got in on the action.

Van Gool, a Sint-Michielsgestel, Netherlands native, added her next two tallies to put the Leopards up 6-0 at the halftime break.

To kick off the third period, freshman Katie Jackivicz assisted Thedrian's second goal of the day. The first-year out of Mattapoisett, Mass. then converted her own score as the Leopards ran away to an 8-0 advantage.

Lafayette put up three more goals in the final period en route to the 11-0 victory. Katie Gibb secured two of those goals with deflections at the inserter position, both assisted by van Gool from the top of the circle. Emma Maher claimed the remaining goal with help from Elsa Wood.

The hosts held the advantage in total shots (37-2) and penalty corners (15-1). The squad recorded a season-high in points (36), goals (11), assists (14), shots (37), shots on goal (27) and penalty corners (15) against the Mountain Hawks

Lafayette's junior goalkeeper Addison Kahn made two saves in her seventh shutout of the fall. Her Lehigh counterpart, Kate Burgess, made 14.

Next up, the Leopards host William & Mary on Sunday at 11 a.m. for Alumni Day.
