Fisher Field at Fisher Stadium has been home to the Lafayette football program since 1926. The complete $33 million transformation, finished in 2007, has given Lafayette one of the premier venues in all of Division I football at the FCS level. The project consolidated all of the College’s football operations on the main campus. Fisher Stadium has also the proud home of the the men's and women's lacrosse programs since the early 2000s.
New spectator seating was built throughout the venue, including chair back seating in select areas of the home stands. Additional visitors’ seating was also added, taking the stadium capacity to 13,132 fans.
The team plays on FieldTurf’s state-of-the-art in-fill synthetic surface which was initially installed in 2006 and last replaced in 2021, allowing for year-round use by the football program. For the first time in the venue’s history, night games were played in 2007 thanks to the installation of stadium lighting. A press box atop the home grandstands was added that includes individual booths for television and radio, coaching staffs and game administrators, while a VIP suite sits at the end opposite the media area.
Installed in 2023, the most visible feature of the venue during gameday is the state-of-the-art scoreboard which features a 28 by 47-foot video matrix board used to show live game action and replays. Other stadium improvements included new bathroom and vending areas in the middle and upper concourses.
The 24,000 square foot Bourger Varsity Football House at the west end of Fisher Field completed the transformation of Lafayette’s football facilities into the state-of-the-art Fisher Stadium.
In addition to featuring a spacious lobby and reception area, the first floor of the Bourger Varsity Football House, named in honor of Eugene J. (Mike) ’44 Bourger and Ruth P. ’71 Bourger, contains the team’s locker room, strength and conditioning areas and sports medicine facilities, including a hydrotherapy room. The upper level houses coaches’ offices, a gallery with displays honoring “Legends of Lafayette Football,” and several meeting rooms, one of which is theater style and large enough to accommodate the entire team. That area, which can also be divided into four separate spaces, features audio-visual capabilities that match those in the “smart classrooms” in the College’s academic buildings.
The principal contributors to the comprehensive Fisher Stadium project were the F.M. Kirby Foundation, Jack Bourger ’71 and Selena Vanderwerf and the Brenda Blythe Trust and James R. ’77 and Tracey Fisher. The F.M. Kirby Foundation came under the leadership of Fred Morgan Kirby ’42 until his passing in 2011. His lifetime of contributions to the College and the game of college football were honored by induction into the Lafayette College Maroon Club Hall of Fame and with his receipt of the Legacy Award presented by the National Football Foundation and the College Hall of Fame.
Now entering its 97th season, Fisher Field has been host to 473 Lafayette football games with the Leopards enjoying an overall record of 266-194-13. Of the previous 96 seasons, Lafayette has produced 13 undefeated home seasons with the most recent being the 2021 spring campaign when the Leopards were 2-0 at home during the pandemic. Prior to that, the 1992 Patriot League champions, who went 5-0 at home, managed the first undefeated home season since 1970. During the 1991, 1992 and 1993 seasons, Lafayette won 10 straight home games, tying the school record for consecutive wins first set by the 1926 and 1927 squads in the first 10 games ever played in the stadium.
The first football game played in the then 18,000-seat structure came on Sept. 25, 1926, a 35-0 win over Muhlenberg College.
