All the bleachers have been pulled courtside and things are really starting to feel like home inside Kirby Sports Center. The stands are having the finishing touches put on as you read this and pretty soon we will start to see the walls have some flashy new signs and banners. For now, click the link above to see the entire photo gallery from Kirby as it stands today.

Yes, those are chairback seats on the North wall of the Kirby Sports Center arena. Sure look comfortable, huh? Also, check out the grandstand being built at the West baseline ... you know, the end where the dreaded white curtain used to be. It will mimic the one already built at the East baseline. Good news if you're on iOS or other operating systems that don't play nice (or at all) with Flash -- we have a new photo gallery viewer that works on all devices. Enjoy!

Check out the progress of the grandstands in today's photo gallery. Bleacher seats along the East (lobby) baseline are completed. Work continues on the two sideline grandstands that will each be 100% chairback seats as well as the bleacher seats along the West (open) baseline.

So ... new scoreboard with LED displays - check! .... new LED scorer's tables - check! ... refinished court - check! ... fresh coat of paint throughout - check! What's left? How about the new grandstands with 100% chairbacks along both sidelines and bleacher seating at both baselines? That work started today.
Special thanks to Bob MacMillan of Miller Flooring Company and Robert MacMillan Photography for taking and sharing a great photo gallery of the Kirby arena court being redone.

It's a great Saturday morning on College Hill. The campus is buzzing with more than 2,000 alumni, families and friends on campus for reunion weekend. It's quiet in the Kirby Sports Center arena but the excitement is there as the centerpiece of the project is now in position and being tested - the new, four-sided, center-hung video board and scoreboard.

Painting is virtually completed in the Kirby Sports Center arena. Check out the bright, white ceiling and rafters as well as the maroon wall at the East end of the arena. Much more prep work to be done before the LED video boards and new scoreboard are installed, including removal of the white curtain at the West end of the court.
The renovation project goes offline this week to convert the arena into the rain site for the College's 178th Commencement on Saturday, May 25.

The original bleachers have been removed and it's on to paint prep. That means there's plastic going down everywhere in the Kirby Sports Center arena. Who's glad that's not their job?
Also, see what's left of the original Kirby Sports Center bleachers in today's photo gallery.
