A standout on the gridiron in the late 1960's,
Ed Baker `70 rates as one of the best passers in
Lafayette football history.
Baker ranks fifth on the
Leopards' all-time passing list with 2,921 total yards.
From 1967-69, he completed 240 of 518 passes (51.0)
for 18 touchdowns. Enjoying his finest season in 1969,
Baker threw for 1,422 yards while completing 120 of
236 attempts (46.3), and throwing 10 touchdowns.
Leading the squad to a 7-3 record in 1968, Baker
enjoyed his top single-game performance in a 36-14
win over Columbia that season, throwing for 189 yards
and two touchdowns on 11-of-21 passing. Upon
graduation, Baker was signed as a free agent by the
New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL).
