Fred Braun was a big reason for one of the most
successful periods of Lafayette wrestling history. As a
captain in his junior and senior seasons, the 177-
pounder logged a school-record 29 consecutive
victories.
Braun was named the "Outstanding Wrestler"
of the 1955 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC)
Championships after winning his second straight
individual title. In his three seasons on College Hill, the
Leopards compiled a 32-2-1 record and took three
second-place finishes at the MAC Tournament. The
1953-54 team went 10-0-1 and is the only undefeated
grappling squad in school history. Braun won the Pepper
Prize in 1955 for his outstanding service to the Lafayette
community. He served two years in the U.S. Army upon
graduation, during which time he captured second place
at the 1956 U.S. Olympic Rowing Trials.
